NFL Green and the Super Bowl LIX Host Committee joined with special forces veterans from FORCE BLUE, the Coalition to restore coastal Louisiana (CRCL), and community volunteers to move 59 tons of bagged oyster shells into the water near the boat ramp in Leeville, Lafourche Parish, creating a living shoreline that will provide habitat for new oysters and other wildlife to slow the rate of erosion. Volunteers also planted thousands of marsh grasses. The project will contribute to storm surge protection for inland communities. The 59 tons of oyster shells were collected by CRCL and Chefs Brigade, a consortium of Gulf Coast restaurants, chefs and caterers working to preserve Louisiana’s coast, and through a grant from NOAA. Chefs Brigade’s mobile restaurant partners and off-bottom oyster partners was on-site to provide a taste of New Orleans to volunteers and media.
